When we think of home water damage we usually first think of a flood disaster, but in reality, the majority of home water damage comes from within the home by burst pipes, backed-up sewers, or sprinklers. So, it is imperative to review your homeowner’s insurance policy to ensure proper coverage because, for many insurance companies, it is not a standard option. Mastercraft professionals will respond immediately and used advanced equipment and techniques to remove the water quickly. Our water restoration specialists will closely monitor and document the drying process to verify your property is dried properly and thoroughly.

Plumbing Supply Failure

Your own plumbing system is the top cause of home water damage.  18% due to frozen pipes while 65% are simply due to material failures.  Situations like this can be remedied by installing an Automated Shutoff Valve.

Plumbing Drain Failures

Drain system claims, based on a national review of homeowner’s insurance claims, related to material performance issues increase steadily until the home reaches 40 years of age.

Toilet Failure

Toilet failures are the second leading source of residential water losses, after plumbing supply line failures. Toilet backups/overflows may be due to faulty fill valves or clogged drain lines.

Water Heater Failure

Most water heater failures occur when the water heater has reached its life expectancy and the tank begins to rust and corrode. This is true since the majority of water heater failures involve leaking or bursting, usually as the result of a deteriorated tank.

Texas thunderstorms can cause severe damage to your home, sometimes unnoticed, because they can bring powerful downdrafts, dangerous lightning, and damaging hail.  Many homeowners are not always aware of roofing system damages until it’s too late and they begin noticing leaks.  Unattended leaks in your roofing system can go unnoticed for months and can birth mold growth in hidden areas.  So if in doubt, get it checked out!

In addition to our thunderstorms, we also have to consider our seasonal hurricanes and tropical storms that bring high winds and flooding.  Always be prepared, have a plan, and use wise judgment in any storm.

Things To Do After A Distaster

Call your insurance agent immediately. You most likely will be getting calls from public adjusters and contractors trying to offer you deals on putting your home back together. Not only are these solicitations stressful but they can also be confusing. Trust your insurance agent and keep our information handy, remember we are your advocates.

Contact Mastercraft Premier  We help with the soot cleanup and opened areas boarded up such as windows, and other small construction to protect undamaged areas.

Separate damaged property from undamaged property. Your insurance company will need a detailed inventory list from you after they inspect the loss. Separating your damaged property from your undamaged property will make it easier for you to make a list of your damaged items. See our “What to do before disaster strikes” article.

Save undamaged property from further destruction. Any items that are not damaged should be put in a safe place, even if it means putting them in storage.

Work with your insurance company’s investigation. When a fire claim is reported to an insurance company, it is given top priority. The adjuster will usually come out to see the loss within 24 to 48 hours so be available because the sooner this step is done, the sooner you can restore.

The Red Cross:  Each year, the Red Cross responds to nearly 64,000 disasters, the vast majority of which are home fires. So we set a goal to reduce fire-related deaths and injuries in the US by 25% by 2020.

Knowing where to begin and who can help you is important

It’s better to have a plan and not need it versus not having a plan and needing it.

Find a good mobile app to inventory your home belongings.  It should be able to take pictures, list the purchase price, and date of purchase.  If you no longer have the receipt then search the internet and get a ball-park price.

Other great tools for cataloging your home inventory would be Google Docs, Microsoft OneNote, or Evernote.  What ever tool you use, make sure that it is either stored safely in the Cloud or stored in the fire proof vault.
